REGULAR TOWN BOARD MEETING
THURSDAY, MARCH 13, 2025

These minutes represent the general subject matter discussed in this meeting but do not
reflect a verbatim documentation of the subjects and conversation that took place.

1. Chairman David Ciembronowicz called the Regular Town Board Meeting to order at 6 P.M.
Present were Supervisor Rich Nemitz, Cassie Fleming, John Rautio, John Sleeman, and Clerk
Treasurer Helen G Hyde , she also testified the meeting was properly posted.
2. A motion by John Sleeman, seconded by John Rautio to approve the Agenda. Motion Carried.
3. A motion by Rich Nemitz, seconded John Sleeman to approve the Minutes of the Regular Town
Meeting January 9, 2025, Motion Carried.
4. A motion by John Rautio, seconded by Rich Nemitz to approve the Financial Report. Motion
Carried.
5. Heads of Departments present. Jackie Pooler- Library, Fire- John Darwin, Andy Jatzo- Highway,
Adam Olson-Ambulance
6. Citizens Comments – Mike Fertak, Chris Deising, Randy Morgan, Dave Mills, Katie Lucca
7. Town Chairman comments .Updates on how the Town’s infrastructure projects, Budgets,
Efficiency of Town departments.
8. Bayfield County Zoning is looking for people to join the code rewrite project stakeholder group
from surrounding townships. Applications can be found online and are due on March 14 th , 2025.
9. A motion by Rich Nemitz, seconded by Cassie Fleming to form an ADHOC Committee for
planning and Zoning in Iron River for 1 year, the meetings will begin in May 2025. Motion
carried.
10. Update on the Towns response to Bayfield County Board of Supervisors new ordinance (07-30-
2024) regarding regulation of short term rentals and application fee per unit and its authority
under Statute 66.0615. The Iron River Town Board is constructing a letter to send to the County
stating we are not following that Ordinance because the County wrote from the incorrect statue
and it is not correct. Motion carried.
11. Update on Fire Department and EMS Department equipment order status. Both vehicles are
ordered and are not expected to come until 2026-2027.
12. Update on Bayfield County Amendatory Ordinance 2025-01-Amending Section 16-3 Well
Protection and private water systems, of the Bayfield County Ordinances. The Ordinance
includes possible County inspection of private and community well systems. A letter was sent to

Bayfield County explaining the Town of Iron River has issues with this Ordinance and needs to
discuss this further.
13. Update. Status of the building owned by Anthony Mitchell from Ashland regarding the unsafe
structure he owns on Main Street in Iron River. The County inspected the building and deemed
it unsafe. They sent a letter to Mr. Mitchell, he has 30 days to respond, if no response the Town
of Iron River has the right to condemn and place expense on his taxes.
14. A motion by Cassie Fleming, seconded by John Rautio to approve moving forward on getting
bids for chip seal road repair projects for 2025 and RFP for requesting bids. Motion carried.
15. A motion by Cassie Fleming, seconded by John Sleeman to move forward with requesting gravel
for projects for the 2025 Road Aid Project due by April 4, 2025. Motion carried.
16. A motion by Rich Nemitz, seconded by John SLeeman to table the request from Rick Ogle at
69525 E Long Lake Road for a variance to build a garage within 28’ of East Long lake Road center
line. Motion Carried.
17. A motion by Rich Nemitz, seconded by John Sleeman to move forward and approve the
Community Center Lighting upgrade to replace fluorescent with LED bulbs. Motion carried.
18. A motion by John Sleeman, seconded by Rich Nemitz to approve a request by John and Mary
Lou Giesregen to deed back property tax id 34396 (35 square feet) to the Town of Iron River .
Spider Lake Road. Motion carried.
19. Updates on Northshore drive plated road vacate status. The paperwork has been sent to
connecting property owners, when signed papers come back the Town will move forward with
completing the vacate.
20. A motion by John Sleeman, seconded by Cassie Fleming to adjourn at 7:40 P.M. Motion carried.
