REGULAR TOWN BOARD MEETING
THURSDAY, MARCH 14, 2024

These minutes represent the general subject matter discussed in this meeting but do not
reflect a verbatim documentation of the subjects and conversation that took place.
1. Chairman David Ciembronowicz called the Regular Town Board Meeting to order at 6 P.M.
Present were Supervisor Roric Gilmer, Rich Nemitz , John Sleeman , Cassie Fleming and
Clerk/Treasurer Helen G Hyde. Clerk testified the meeting was properly posted.
2. A motion by Cassie Fleming, seconded by Roric Gilmer to approve the Agenda, Motion Carried.
3. A motion by Rich Nemitz, seconded by John Sleeman to approve the Minutes of the Regular
Town Meeting February 8, 2024. Motion Carried.
4. A motion by Rich Nemitz, seconded by Cassie Fleming to approve the Financial Report. Motion
Carried.
5. Heads of Departments present. Andy Jatzo – Highway, Adam Olson – Ambulance, Jackie Pooler-
Library, John Darwin- Fire, Police- Voss
6. Ad Hoc Committee for Housing- No new news presented. Parks & Recreation-Helena Jameson
touched base on items that are in the works, Pickle Ball by school; move in the Park Friday
before Blueberry Fest weekend, community splash pod in the summer, looking for new watering
system for hanging baskets.
7. Citizens Comments- Rob Lumbard –asking for Town support with dog ordnance during the
Blueberry Festival: John Quam-asking for more gravel for the road at Drummond Street, the
road is not right yet, it’s still too wet. Asking if the EMS hiring for full time could get on a ballot
or referendum, also commented that anyone who wants to do community service should be
able to do so. Paula Kolanic- asking about opening roads to ATV’s, asking Board to look really
hard at opening roads because it’s the citizens who pay for it.
8. A motion by Cassie Flemimg, seconded by Rich Nemitz to approve the Ordinance for the well
head protection for the Sanitary District. Tim Ciembronowicz from the sanitary district spoke
about the protection ordnance and why it is so important to the aquafer in the Town limits.
Andrew, a rural water expert/association was also available to answer questions or concerns.
Motion carried.
9. Update: Discuss on Room tax and short term rentals. STR in Iron River must be permitted by the
County health department and registered with the Town of Iron River. Room tax must be

charged on all STR’s and sent to the Town of Iron River, then to the Tourism Group. This is then
distributed to nonprofit organizations.
10. A motion by Cassie Fleming, seconded by John Sleeman to increase the room tax, applicable to
motels and short term rentals from 3% to 5%, starting July 1 st , 2024. Motion carried.
11. The Lions club request for the Town Board to have an Ordinance to not allow dogs in the park
for Blueberry Festival has been tabled until further information can be obtained.
12. Update on sale of cardboard compactor. Supervisor Gilmer stated that compactors are around
6000.00 and he recommends starting at that price and listing it on the websites for commercial
sales.
13. Update on US 2 DOT response on Town of Iron River request for traffic control sign and
or devise to slow down traffic. Bob Anderson from Bayfield County recommends
repairing or replacing blinking lights, DOT doesn’t want more signs to be put up.
14. Update on road conditions and limiting traffic on gravel/sand/dirt roads in the township
including ATV/UTV traffic. There have been complaints about vehicles abusing the roads
mentioned, but it very hard for the Police to patrol these roads at all times. Town Board
encourages citizens to call in about people abusing these roads.
15. Update on EMS funding to increase capability to respond to calls, meetings will be
scheduled in the near future to inform citizens about the process.
16. Update on ARPA funds remaining, the Town Board must identify the use of remaining
funds by end of 2024 and funds must be used by end of 2026. Supervisors suggestions
should be presented by May and Citizens are encouraged to present suggestions as well.
17. Update on County Board opening county highways to ATV/UTV traffic. Supervisor
Nemitz attended the meeting held in Bayfield County, the proposal was denied 7-5. At
this time the county roads will not be open.
18. Update on shamrock promotion of local businesses by the Chamber of Commerce. The
promotion has gotten local business through some hard times and has been a success.
19. A motion by Cassie Fleming, seconded by Rich Nemitz to vacate Alley by VFW and Town
Land and sell Lots 5 & 20 to the VFW. Tom Trautt , VFW Commander approached the
Town explaining they want to add on 8 feet to the south to improve the VFW building.
They would like to purchase lot 5 & 20. They will take care of the quick claim deed after
receiving the Bill of Sale (these minutes are proof of sale). The lots will be sold for
$500.00 a piece, $1000.00 total, and have been paid in full. The Town Chairman or Town
Clerk will sign the paper work for completion of the deed transfer or any other
document that needs signature. Motion carried.
20. A motion by Rich Nemitz, seconded by John Sleeman to recommend to County to
consider opening the 1.6 miles on County Hwy A from Hoffern Road to US HWY 2.
Motion carried.
21. A motion by John Sleeman, seconded by Roric Gilmer to adjourn at 7:55 P.M. Motion carried.
