REGULAR TOWN BOARD MEETING

THURSDAY, AUGUST 14, 2025

AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER

These minutes represent the general subject matter discussed in this meeting but do not reflect a verbatim documentation of the subjects and conversation that took place.

  1. Chairman Richard Forsythe called the Regular Town Board Meeting to order at 6 P.M. Present were Supervisor Rich Nemitz, Cassie Fleming, John Rautio, Steve Probst, and Clerk Treasurer Helen G Hyde , she also testified the meeting was properly posted.
  2. Roll call of Town Board. Richard Forsythe- Chairman, Steve Probst- Supervisor, Rich Nemitz- Supervisor, Cassie Fleming- Supervisor – John Rautio- Supervisor
  3. A motion by Steve Probst, seconded by John Rautio to approve the Agenda. Motion Carried.
  4. A motion by Steve probst, seconded by Rich Nemitz to approve the Minutes of the Regular Town Meeting July 10, 2025. Motion Carried.
  5. A motion by Steve Probst, seconded by Rich Nemitz to approve the Financial Report. Motion Carried.
  6. Heads of Departments present. Fire- John Darwin, EMS- Mike Sims, Andy Jatzo- Highway, John Sleeman – Recycling Center ,Jacqueline Pooler – Library
  7. Citizens Comments – No citizens comments
  8. Ad Hock Committee updates from Josh Rowley for the Zoning Department issues. Supervisor Nemitz asked Chairman Forsythe to place the Zoning issues on the next agenda.
  9. A motion by Steve Probst, seconded by Rich Nemitz to approve the request for a Special Event permit for Side Street Saloon at 68330 North Main Street, asking to close a portion of Main Street to put up a stage from 4PM – 10PM, asking for barricades, noise ordinance, open container, garbage cans. August 16, 2025. Motion carried.
  10. A motion by John Rautio, seconded by Cassie Fleming to approve an application for a Special Event Permit for the Iron River Public Library, September 7, 2025, Lea Street & Rail Road Street, intersection from the Tri County Corridor to North of the Winery Parking lot 7 Am-3 PM for a Marathon= ½ Marathon, Jacquie Pooler . Motion carried.
  11. A motion by Cassie Fleming, Seconded by Steve Probst to Table Summit Street Patching, until Chairman can have a discussion with the Sanitary District. Motion carried
  12. A motion by Rich Nemitz, seconded by Cassie Fleming to approve North Woods Paving bid for overlay on East Ruth Lake Road and a portion of Ruth Lake Road, for $59,816.88. Motion carried.
  13. A motion by Steve Probst seconded by Cassie Fleming to approve the AWSC Snowmobile Friendly Community Award, the Town signs a memo of understanding and then puts a sign on both of the Welcome to Iron River signs at both ends of Town. Motion carried.
  14. Dam update: Contractors start working on portion of Dam on August 18th to fix some concrete spots that need attention. Highway has been lowering the water for about a month to gain access to the portion that needs fixing. It will take about one week to fix then water will slowly be raised, it takes about 3-4 weeks to raise the water.
  15. Anthony Mitchell Building update: The State Inspector has issued the building condemned, and it is our legal rights, with Town Powers, to move forward and demolish the building. Mr. Mitchell was contacted and has until the 31st of August to respond to the letters and communication sent. The Town is also waiting for the County to respond on this matter as well.
  16. A discussion with the Chairman and Supervisors about responsibilities within the Town Departments took place. Chairman Forsythe – Building Infrastructure, Highway Department ,Police & Fire Commission: Parks & Baseball Fields- Steve Probst: Highway Department, Recycle Center – assist- John Rautio: Fire Department& EMS Department- Rich Nemitz: Library- Cassie Fleming
  17. A motion by Cassie Fleming, seconded by Steve Probst to adjourn at 7:25 P.M. Motion carried
