TOWN OF IRON RIVER

REGULAR TOWN BOARD MEETING

THURSDAY, APRIL 09, 2026

AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER

These minutes represent the general subject matter discussed in this meeting but do not reflect a verbatim documentation of the subjects and conversation that took place.

  1. Chairman Richard Forsythe called the Regular Town Board Meeting to order at 6 P.M. Present were Supervisor Rich Nemitz, John Rautio, Steve Probst, Cassie Fleming and Clerk Treasurer Helen G Hyde, she also testified the meeting was properly posted.
  2. Roll call of Town Board. Richard Forsythe- Chairman, Steve Probst- Supervisor, Rich Nemitz- Supervisor, John Rautio- Supervisor, Cassie Fleming – Supervisor. All present
  3. A motion by Rich Nemitz, seconded by Steve Probst to approve the agenda. Motion Carried.
  4. A motion by Steve Probst, seconded by John Rautio to approve the Minutes of the Regular Town Meeting March 12, 2026, and the Special Town Board Meeting April 02, 2026. Motion Carried.
  5. A motion by Rich Nemitz, seconded by John Rautio to approve the Financial Report. Motion Carried. Note: Numbers were correct, date was wrong on one of the reports.
  6. Heads of Departments present John Darwin-Fire, Jacqueline Pooler- Library, Andy Jatzo-Highway, John Sleeman-Recycling Center
  7. No Citizens Comments
  8. Steve Probst gave an update on the Town Timber Sales. The trees are being harvested right now South of Town by the Recycling Center
  9. A motion by Rich Nemitz, seconded by Cassie Fleming to approve as written, the Moon Lake Park Rules and Regulations for the 2026 Season. Motion carried.
  10. A motion by Rich Nemitz, seconded by Cassie Fleming to move forward to apply and approve the 2026 Bayfield County Health Community wellness Grant that is due by April 30, 2026. Motion carried.
  11. Chairman Forsythe Spoke to Anthony Mitchell to get an update with the building on Main Street. The Amish are taking most of the metal and some items inside the building. The Town will continue to move forward working with Mr. Mitchell.
  12. The County will be presenting an EMS proposal on April 22, 2026 from 6-8 PM in Washburn, all are welcome to attend.
  13. Chairman Forsythe responded to Ruth at Bayfield County Zoning with a minimum driveway width of 12 feet, the Town Board all agreed with this opinion sent to the County Zoning Department .
  14. A motion by Steve Probst, seconded by John Rautio, opposed by Rich Nemitz to endorse the letter in support of the Sanitary District grant for new water lines. Chairman Forsythe wrote and sent the support letter to Kelly Westlund at Bayfield County. Motion carried.
  15. Update on Long Lake Boat Landing. Bayfield County owns the boat landing, but Iron River does maintain the road. The County Sherriff does not want to get involved with writing tickets to people who are illegally parked because the roads are in Iron River. But they are willing to help widen the lot for better parking. Rich Nemitz spoke, he doesn’t agree with the County’s decision and would like to speak with Sherriff Williams. Steve Probst also spoke in favor of Bayfield County’s decision, saying he has had dealings with this before as past Chairman. Chairman Forsythe and Rich Nemitz will reach out to Bayfield County Sherrif’s Department.
  16. Update on Towns Emails. Chairman Forsythe would like to see all the Supervisors on the same email system as soon as possible.
  17. A motion by Cassie Fleming, seconded by John Rautio to table the renewal of the Ambulance Lon and bid the loan out to two separate banks. Motion carried.
  18. A motion by John Rautio, seconded by Casie Fleming to support the Resolution for the Comprehensive and Sustainable Transportation Funding Solution presented by the Wisconsin’s Town Association. Motion carried.
  19. A motion by Rich Nemitz, seconded by Cassie Fleming to adjourn at 7:20 P.M. Motion carried
